I went slack-lining with my new friend, Elmar! We spent a fantastic afternoon (about 1:30-5) taking turns balancing on a rope pulled taut between two trees. Good stuff. And the weather remained glorious throughout. It was definitely one of my highlights of NY thus far...
Kelsey (who helped me get the childcare gigs) had a housewarming party. She and her flatmate have a super artsy setup. Really fun. Full of plants and cozy yet cute furniture. And whoopie (sp?) cushions and lots of neat friends. I hope I get to hang out with them more.
TJ (my flatmate) and I finally got to hang out a little. TJ's great. He's a great reading teacher and is extremely knowledgeable on the theatre scene. It was a pleasure chilling with him tonight. And we're going to see Bloody Andrew Jackson next Sunday. Tickets are bought. I hope I can slack-line, too. Fingers crossed.
Tomorrow I'm sending out about fifty headshots/resumes/cover letters, meeting with Kelsey, going to a Manhattan Public Library (that's gonna be so AWESOME!), and working/talking/etc. theatre. I've also got my first audition in NYC for the New York Shakespeare Exchange, which is pretty exciting! It's been so long since I've acted (truly it's only about 7 weeks) and I feel a bit out of practice. We'll see how it goes. My audition's at 9PM. Fingers crossed.
General mood? Excited.
I am finding that I have more hobbies than acting alone.
I like:
- slack-lining
- rock climbing
- clogging/tapping
- yoga
- playing violin
- reading
- studying paranormal activity (thinking about checking into some of them for myself)
- dialect work
- singing
- helping other folks out.
Not a bad list really for now. About a year ago I don't think I even had a list, so I'm pleased. I'm trying to find ways to get involved in all of them. AND I am beginning my first steps as a professional actor! This feels like a great balance: Focus on my Professional Life (kinda like starting my own business) and Supporting of Professional Life (childcare) and balancing that with physical or mental stimulus to help me see the big picture. Exciting!!!
Anyhoo, time for some sleep. Big, beautiful day tomorrow. :)
